You've left me with so much to think about. Thank you!!

Thank you for reading Hannah! It was not easily written, as it is probably not exactly what we like to hear, but out of various observations and conversations over many years it ripened and got strong enough, that I dared to share it.

This is very interesting.

I completely agree that we can't save the planet; we are dependent on it, while it isn't dependent on us. We've put ourselves in jeopardy, and that's what we're either panicking about or outright denying, depending on political partisanship or scientific literacy. I also think our notions of human superiority are self-evidently fallacious, as they are entirely self-serving and presuppose human exceptionalism and some objective value about human beings that doesn't exist.

All systems exist to replicate themselves, so the question is what is natural? We can be natural and also parasitic, because parasites are a part of the cycle. And then we have the naturalistic fallacy that presumes there's something inherently good or superior about what is natural, combined with the fact that all value judgments are subjective anyway, and don't exist outside of our consciousness. We are simply constrained by our inability to think about these things without being self-referential, and it's that prism itself that makes us different from other animals; different, but not necessarily superior, as you point out.

I find myself asking more questions I don't have the answers to, which is a sign that you've done your job as a writer. It's a great piece, and I know how difficult it is to write something like this.

Thank you so much for your contribution AGK! As stated and as you and still, I am far away of any answers. I observe without final or absolute conclusion. I guess this is another typical human thing, that everything has beginning and end, everything must resolve in a linear way, there must be a final conclusion. Or at least a sense we can understand. But I dare to say, that that- again- is a construct produced by our minds or how our brains function. And yes, even parasites play a certain role in the whole, I often talk about that microorganisms -which are everywhere- with my sister. She’s a fantastic nerd in that regards and it is fascinating in both beautiful and cruel ways. And well, you are totally right, it is not easy to write a piece like this, it is uncomfortable, also for me, but it felt true.

That's the best reason to write.

The most dangerous form of “human superiority” today is amnesia, the forgetting that intelligence without restraint is not evolution but acceleration without steering. Superiority narratives thrive when responsibility is outsourced to progress, tech, or destiny, instead of being anchored in limits, care, and consequence.

This is so beautiful, Karin, I enjoyed every word!

I’m also grateful if anything I’ve written could inspire you even a little!

A Beautiful Mess | Karin Sziva's avatar

Well yes, it is like a plane without pilot or rather a pilot without the head we are so proud of. That’s indeed amnesia.

Thank you for your- again- poignant words Tamara!

It won't surprise you that I've been thinking on these lines for a long long time now. The similarities grow.

A Beautiful Mess | Karin Sziva's avatar

It would have surprised me if- with that many similarities- there would be very different feelings toward that...how should one call it? Should I say disaster? Today it's again obvious again- new year, other human invention that got wrong big times in regards to respect toward living beings...Big hug to you!

Again we agree, I wish I had a volume control to turn down all the exterior noise! Wishing you all the best for the New Year, big hug
